As a self-confessed tinkerer, the regular telecaster wiring set-up just doesn't cut it for me. Notwithstanding the fact that the regular set-up has been perfectly fine for the world's best guitarists for decades (of which I am certainly not one), there are a few things I like to do with my tele's, some of which I'll explain in this post and upcoming posts.
I'll start with the well-known reverse wiring, which places the volume knob at the top, treble knob in the middle and pickup selector switch at the bottom of the control plate. I find having the volume at the top makes it easier to change on the fly and the pickup selector at the bottom keeps it out of the way from my fat fingers accidentally hitting it. It's horses for courses. Volume swells are easier this way too.
This is the reverse wiring diagram I've been using (link to source)

* The volume kit/treble bleed kit is optional , but helps avoid treble roll-off at lower volumes. More details on that here.
